Roma have a golden opportunity to leapfrog into fifth place in Serie A after Como and Napoli played to a goalless draw. A victory against Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow would put the Giallorossi firmly in control of their own destiny, especially in the race for a Europa League spot.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference at Trigoria, coach Gian Piero Gasperini delivered encouraging news on the injury front. "Koné has recovered, and Dybala was already back last week, getting some minutes in the last game. Both have trained even better in recent days, so they're available for tomorrow," he confirmed.
Gasperini also addressed the presence of club owner Corbin Friedkin at training, interpreting it as a strong signal of commitment. "The owners are starting to take action not just for the end of this season, which is our priority, but also for the long-term future," he noted.
When pressed about the club's planning, the coach acknowledged the delicate balance between short-term and long-term goals. "Right now, there are two tracks. The season is still very much alive. Tomorrow we face a Fiorentina side that's on a positive run—seven positive results—and they've pulled themselves out of a tough spot in the standings. They're a quality team that remains dangerous," he explained.
"We're completely focused on this match. With four games left, we're still in the league. We need to keep an eye on other results, but we all know the standings. Our focus has to stay on this final stretch. The team's performance has been exceptional from the start, and we want to continue that in these last four games, including the derby. Of course, we'll talk about the future when the time comes—not to avoid it, but because we're still fully in the season. When that moment arrives, I'll be as clear as possible with the fans, who rightly want to understand the plans."
Gasperini acknowledged the club's recent turbulence. "There's been a particular development in recent weeks, and we have to credit the club. They likely suffered a major unexpected disappointment and were forced to take a different path than initially planned. But I don't believe other teams have already finalized everything for next season."
With the Giallorossi's European hopes hanging in the balance, tomorrow's clash against Fiorentina could prove decisive—not just for this season, but for shaping the club's ambitions moving forward.
