This week at the RBC Heritage, Gary Woodland is navigating Harbour Town with a new face on his bag. The reason? His longtime caddie, Brennan "Butchie" Little, is trading the caddie bib for a player's badge, competing in the 86th Senior PGA Championship at The Concession Golf Club in Florida.
Little, a qualified club professional from the North Texas section, earned his spot in the season's first PGA Tour Champions major for the second consecutive year. He's no stranger to the pressure of big events, having been a pivotal part of Woodland's career, including his emotional victory at the Houston Open this March and his iconic 2019 U.S. Open win at Pebble Beach. His resume also includes Mike Weir's 2003 Masters triumph, proving he knows what it takes to win at the highest level.
Now, the roles are reversed. After carrying the bag for Woodland at The Masters just last week, Little will be the one hitting the shots. Woodland, who opened the Heritage with a bogey-free 66 under the guidance of veteran fill-in caddie Tim Tucker, has full confidence in his caddie's game. "He can putt the heck out of it," Woodland said. "For the Champions Tour, he's long. It's just a matter of controlling his nerves."
In a fitting twist, Little has enlisted his own caddie for the championship: good friend Dean "Dynamite" Emerson, who normally works for Patton Kizzire. It's a unique story that highlights the deep talent and competitive spirit found not just on the tour, but often right beside the players, carrying the clubs.
