Gary Neville, the legendary former Manchester United captain, has wasted no time in laying out a clear summer transfer blueprint for the club. Fresh off United's emphatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool—a win that secured Champions League football for next season—Neville believes the squad still needs serious reinforcements to truly challenge at the top.

Speaking on his podcast, Neville identified four priority areas that need strengthening, with a heavy emphasis on the defence and midfield. "I think Manchester United need a left-back for next season," he said, pointing to the heavy workload carried by Luke Shaw. "He's played every game this season, and I think he may struggle."

Beyond the left-back position, Neville also highlighted the need for a new centre-back, an area that has long been a talking point among fans and pundits alike. Depth and quality in defence, he argued, are essential for long-term stability.

But it was the midfield that drew the most urgent calls. Neville named two central midfielders among his top four priorities, stressing that United need players who can handle the physical and tactical demands of both the Premier League and Champions League. "They don't just need numbers," he explained. "They need midfielders who can manage difficult games, protect the defence, and give the attackers a reliable platform."

Neville also hinted that a fifth signing could be on the cards, depending on outgoings. For Manchester United, this summer represents a pivotal moment—one where smart recruitment could turn a promising season into the foundation for sustained success.
