Mateusz Gamrot is back in the win column and has his sights set on the lightweight division's biggest names. After a dominant second-round submission victory over Esteban Ribovics at UFC 327, "Gamer" made it clear he's ready for a step back up in competition.
The Polish standout secured an arm-triangle choke to finish Ribovics, a crucial rebound from his short-notice loss to former champion Charles Oliveira. That high-profile fight in Brazil marked the first time Gamrot had ever been finished, making this return to form all the more important for his trajectory in the stacked 155-pound division.
With the victory secured, Gamrot didn't waste time laying out his hit list. His immediate callout in the cage was for the surging Diego Lopes, praising him as a "fun fight" and expressing willingness to wait for him later in the year. But his ambitions didn't stop there.
Speaking to the media, Gamrot made his case for a ranked opponent, name-dropping three of the division's most talked-about fighters. "Maybe BSD (Benoit Saint Denis), maybe Paddy (Pimblett), maybe Arman (Tsarukyan) again – it doesn’t matter who," Gamrot stated. "I want to fight. I want to prove I’m the best in the world. Only full camp, and I’m ready to rock and roll."
This confident callout sets the stage for several potential explosive matchups. A fight with the hard-hitting Benoit Saint Denis would be a brutal striker vs. grappler clash, while a bout with the popular Paddy Pimblett would carry massive fan interest. A rematch with Arman Tsarukyan, to whom Gamrot lost a razor-close split decision in 2022, is another tantalizing option for the UFC matchmakers.
After taking a step back in competition to get back on track, Mateusz Gamrot has loudly declared he's ready for the elite. The lightweight division just got another compelling contender throwing his name into the mix for a major fight.
