Hoping momentum really does work this time

After a dominant 12-0 victory last night, the Chicago White Sox look to carry that offensive explosion into today's matchup against the Oakland Athletics. However, as any baseball fan knows, momentum resets to zero when the first pitch is thrown.

The White Sox will hand the ball to Erick Fedde, who has been a bright spot in their rotation. Sporting a solid 3.63 ERA, Fedde aims to build on a strong outing against Kansas City and replicate the excellent pitching performance Davis Martin provided yesterday.

Opposing him will be Athletics veteran Luis Severino. The two-time All-Star has struggled mightily with command this season, issuing 16 walks in just over 19 innings on his way to a 5.59 ERA. He'll need to rediscover the strike zone against a White Sox lineup that found its rhythm in a big way last night.

That lineup features Andrew Benintendi, who historically hits Severino well, and Munetaka Murakami, who launched a grand slam that might still be in flight. They'll be looking to continue their success against the struggling right-hander.

For the A's, leadoff hitter Jeff McNeil is the only batter with experience against Fedde, and he's had success, going 7-for-18. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m. CT under ideal 73-degree skies in Oakland.
