The Brewers are about to face both reigning Cy Young winners in back-to-back games. Yes, you read that right.

2025 AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal is on the mound today in Detroit, and tomorrow the Brewers return home to a warm welcome from 2025 NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes.

Per Sophia Minnaert, this is only the second time in major league history that a team has faced both of the previous year’s Cy Young winners in back-to-back games. The only other team to draw that assignment was last year’s Red Sox.

Skubal has been pitching like a Cy Young winner again this season. Through five starts, he’s allowed more than one run just once. In his last outing against the Red Sox, he went six innings, allowing four hits while striking out ten.

With Skubal on the mound and a few key Brewers out of the lineup, Milwaukee will need a strong performance from right-hander Brandon Sproat. Sproat turned in his best outing of the season last time around, tossing 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball against the Blue Jays. He’s now allowed exactly four hits and one earned run in each of his last two appearances.

Jake Bauers is out of today’s lineup against the left-handed Skubal, as are Sal Frelick and Garrett Mitchell. Brice Turang, William Contreras, and Gary Sánchez — hitting second, third, and fourth — have all been excellent at the plate. Turang and Sánchez both have OPSes over .950, with Contreras at .838. After that, the drop-off is steep. Leadoff hitter Brandon Lockridge owns the next-highest OPS, at .660. The rest of today’s lineup is:
