The summer transfer window is set to bring major changes at Anfield, as Liverpool face a period of significant upheaval following a disappointing campaign under manager Arne Slot.

After spending a staggering £450 million on new arrivals last summer, the Reds have struggled to meet expectations, and the consequences are now coming into focus. With an eye on bouncing back in the 2026/27 season, the club is already lining up new signings—and midfield reinforcements are high on the priority list.

Slot has relied heavily on the same core group of midfielders over the past few seasons, but the returns are diminishing. Key players like Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch have shown signs of fatigue, while contract uncertainty surrounds Curtis Jones. It's no surprise that names like Adam Wharton and Eduardo Camavinga have once again been linked with moves to Merseyside.

If new faces do arrive, it will inevitably have a knock-on effect on the club's younger prospects. One player who may have hoped for a first-team opportunity is Luca Stephenson. The 22-year-old caught Slot's eye during preseason and signed a new contract before heading out on loan to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership.

A versatile midfielder who can also slot in at right-back, Stephenson was even tipped for an early return in January when Liverpool were dealing with selection headaches. Unfortunately, his season was cut short by a hamstring injury, but not before he impressed for the Tangerines with his energy and composure on the ball.

Interest from Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic has reportedly cooled for now, but that hasn't dampened Stephenson's ambition. According to reports, the young midfielder is ready to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis in search of regular first-team football and a place to call home.

"He's somebody that Rangers did look at and were keeping tabs on, due to his form on loan at Dundee United," the report notes. "Long-term, Stephenson is ready to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis. He wants to find a permanent home and nail down a place in the starting XI on a regular basis."

For fans and followers of the beautiful game, this kind of squad shake-up is always intriguing—and for those who love to rep their favorite clubs, it's a reminder that change is part of the sport's rhythm. Whether you're stocking up on new kits or just keeping an eye on the transfer market, one thing is certain: Liverpool's midfield is in for a makeover.
