It's been a long, tough stretch for the Cincinnati Reds, but believe it or not, Sunday afternoon offers a golden opportunity to actually win a series at Great American Ball Park. After stumbling through one of the most painful losing streaks in recent memory, the Reds finally rediscovered the win column on Saturday. Now, they're looking to build momentum—and they're sending a 2025 All-Star to the mound to help seal the deal.
Left-hander Andrew Abbott takes the ball for Cincinnati. While his 2026 campaign hasn't matched the magic of his All-Star 2025 season, there are signs he's starting to round back into form. That said, he faces a tough challenge: the Houston Astros have posted a collective 111 wRC+ against southpaws this season. Gulp indeed.
On the offensive side, the Reds are finally shaking things up at the top of the lineup. Will Benson, who's been on fire with a 1.042 OPS over his last nine games, will lead off today. Right behind him is Spencer Steer, who owns an impressive .843 OPS over his last 125 plate appearances dating back to April 3rd. That kind of production at the top of the order could be exactly what Cincinnati needs to keep the bats alive.
First pitch is set for 1:40 PM ET. With a series win on the line and a lineup that's starting to click, this afternoon's matchup between Abbott and the Astros promises plenty of drama. Check out the full lineups for both clubs below, and get ready for some Sunday baseball in the Queen City.
