Like a champion rising from defeat, Oakland Hills Country Club's iconic clubhouse has been reborn. After a devastating fire ripped through the historic structure in February 2022, the 110-year-old club in Bloomfield Township has unveiled a stunning new clubhouse that honors its storied past while embracing a championship future.
The gleaming-white clubhouse, completed in December 2025, draws inspiration from the original 1921 design by architect Howard C. Crane. But this isn't just a replica—it's a reimagined landmark ready to welcome golf's biggest events. Club leaders recently offered a guided tour, showcasing the new features that blend tradition with modern luxury.
"What stands behind me is new, but what it represents is timeless," said Marc Ray, general manager and chief operating officer. "This clubhouse was not simply rebuilt, it was reimagined with intention, guided by history and inspired by the generations who came before us."
The timing couldn't be better. Oakland Hills is poised to host seven USGA championships through 2051, including the U.S. Open in 2034 and 2051, and the U.S. Women's Open in 2031 and 2042. Combined with Gil Hanse's recent $12 million renovation of the championship South Course, the club has positioned itself as a premier destination for major golf events.
The original clubhouse was lost in a fire that caused an estimated $80 million in damages. Construction on the new structure began in July 2024 and was completed "on time and within budget," according to club president Michael Costello. While the final cost remains undisclosed, the club confirmed the new clubhouse matches the original in square footage and scale.
One of the most noticeable upgrades is the expanded patio overlooking the South Course, now featuring four upstairs uncovered seating areas that offer breathtaking views of the action. Every detail was carefully considered to create spaces that honor the club's rich history while providing modern comfort for members and championship spectators alike.
For golf enthusiasts and fans of the game, Oakland Hills' resurrection is a powerful reminder that even after the toughest setbacks, greatness can rise again. Whether you're dreaming of watching the U.S. Open from that new patio or simply inspired by this story of resilience, it's clear that Oakland Hills is ready to write its next championship chapter.
