France manager Didier Deschamps has officially revealed his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking his final tournament in charge of Les Bleus before stepping down. The 57-year-old tactician has selected a familiar mix of seasoned stars and emerging talent, aiming to reach a third consecutive World Cup final—and this time, bring home the trophy after the heartbreak of 2022, when they fell to Lionel Messi's Argentina on penalties.
One of the biggest talking points was the third-choice goalkeeper spot, especially after PSG's Lucas Chevalier was ruled out with a thigh injury. Deschamps turned to 21-year-old Robin Risser of Lens, handing the young shot-stopper his first-ever senior call-up just in time for the tournament. Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta earns a recall, benefiting from Hugo Ekitiké's serious Achilles injury. Notably, Tottenham's Randal Kolo Muani and Ligue 1 top scorer Estéban Lepaul have been left out.
Before heading to the United States, France will tune up with two friendlies: a home clash against Ivory Coast in Nantes on June 4, followed by a match versus Northern Ireland in Lille on June 8. In Group I, Les Bleus will face Senegal (June 16), Iraq (June 22), and Norway (June 26).
