Florida State women's golf is in prime position to make a run at the NCAA Championship, sitting just one stroke off the lead heading into the final round of the Tallahassee Regional at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
The fourth-seeded Seminoles are at 4-under par as a team, trailing only rival Florida (-5) after a challenging second round that tested every player's mental and physical game. Heavy rain pushed back the start of play and caused a nearly three-hour delay, leaving the course wet and the conditions tough. But the Seminoles held their ground, proving that grit and focus can overcome even the worst weather.
Leading the charge for FSU was sophomore Alexandra Gazzoli, who fired a career-best-tying round of 68. Her stellar performance moved her to 4-under for the tournament, placing her third on the individual leaderboard—just four shots behind Louisiana Monroe's Johanna Sjursen (-8) and two back of Wake Forest's Chloe Kovelesky (-6). Gazzoli was the only Seminole to finish under par in the second round, a testament to her composure under pressure.
The stakes couldn't be higher: only the top five teams from this regional will advance to the NCAA Championship tournament at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. For Florida State, this is familiar territory. The program is chasing its fourth regional championship in six seasons, having won the Lexington Regional last year en route to a Final Four appearance, as well as the Tallahassee Regional in 2022 and the Louisville Regional in 2021.
The Seminoles will tee off for the final round at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13. Admission is free, and fans can follow live stats on Scoreboard. If the past is any indication, expect FSU to bring its A-game when it matters most.
