The FSU Seminoles have done it again—capturing their 20th ACC Softball Tournament Championship with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday. This latest title adds to a dynasty that has seen the program reach the championship game 28 times, while the rest of the conference combined has only 15 titles. Head coach Lonni Alameda earned her 10th ACC Tournament crown, and the team's first since 2023, improving their season record to an impressive 49-8.
The win didn't come easy. Virginia Tech struck first in the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an error by Isa Torres. But the Seminoles responded swiftly in the second frame. Bella Ruggiero drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on a double by Kennedy Harp, tying the game. Harp then gave FSU the lead moments later, crossing the plate on a passed ball.
From there, the game became a pitcher's duel. Both teams struggled to capitalize with runners on base—FSU went 2-for-10 with runners on and 0-for-4 in scoring position, while Virginia Tech went 1-for-8 with runners on and 1-for-5 in scoring position. But the Seminoles' defense held strong, and their offense did just enough.
ACCPitcher of the Year Jazzy Francik was the star in the circle. She allowed just one unearned run over 6.0 innings, scattering three hits and two walks while striking out six. The win improved her record to 22-2 and lowered her ERA to 1.75, cementing her status as one of the nation's elite arms.
FSU softball fans erupted on social media to celebrate the milestone. The official team account posted, "GIVE US NUMBER 20," while fans echoed the sentiment with chants of "FIRE UP THE WAR CHANT AND PLANT THE SPEAR!!! NOLES WIN!!! NOLES WIN!!!" Others highlighted the program's dominance, noting, "39 Reg season champs + conference tournament champs combined—most in the country." One fan summed it up perfectly: "20!!!! Insane. Lonni Alameda truly is on another level in the ACC and this team is so, so fun to watch."
With this championship, the Seminoles have secured the ACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and could see their resume boost them into a top-eight national seed when the selection show airs Sunday. For now, though, Tallahassee is celebrating yet another trophy in a legacy of excellence.
