In a move that has been brewing for months, Florida State and Georgia have officially scrapped their highly anticipated home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028. The Seminoles announced the mutual decision on Thursday, but don't fret—both programs are actively working to schedule a neutral-site showdown instead.

This marks the second major cancellation for Florida State in under a year, following the removal of a 2026 home game against Notre Dame last November. The trend isn't isolated, either. Other high-profile ACC vs. SEC matchups—like Georgia versus Louisville—have also been shelved recently, as conference realignment continues to reshape college football's scheduling landscape.

Florida State athletic director Michael Alford explained the reasoning in a statement: "As we considered the effects of evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028." He added, "We are now discussing playing a future neutral-site contest, and we are optimistic we will get that done. Importantly, this change will not reduce the total home games on our schedule moving forward."

The pivot to a neutral-site game isn't just about logistics—it's about money and exposure. Sources told Tomahawk Nation that streaming platforms like Netflix are actively courting the matchup, similar to Amazon Prime's recent deal to broadcast Duke basketball games. With both the ACC and SEC transitioning to nine-game conference schedules, teams are increasingly prioritizing "scheduled wins" over grueling non-conference battles. Neutral-site games also spark bidding wars among venues, often making them more lucrative for the programs involved.

For Florida State, however, the timing is tricky. The Seminoles just completed major renovations to Doak Campbell Stadium, and marquee matchups like the one against Alabama in 2025 were intended to help generate revenue. Without Georgia on the home slate, the schedule loses some of its luster as the program navigates a critical crossroads. Still, if a neutral-site clash with the Bulldogs comes to fruition, it could be a blockbuster event that draws national attention—and fills the coffers just the same.
