Friday's high school baseball action delivered some unforgettable moments, with St. Joseph-Ogden's 22nd straight victory headlining a day full of dominant pitching, explosive offense, and clutch performances. Here's a rundown of the best from around the diamond.
In a Vermilion Valley Conference showdown, Armstrong-Potomac's Traxton Roberts and Ryan Edwards teamed up for a one-hit shutout on the road. Roberts, a Kentucky recruit, struck out 14 over five shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Edwards, a Danville Area Community College signee, fanned three in two innings of relief—and also delivered at the plate with two hits, including a solo home run in the fourth that gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead. Rhys Showalter added a two-run double, while Caleb Fauser had the lone hit for the Raiders (7-9). The Trojans improved to 13-2.
Host Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond rolled to its sixth straight win, erupting for three runs in the first and four more in both the second and third innings. Will Hilligoss went 3 for 4 with two RBI and three runs scored from the leadoff spot, while Maxton Boddy drove in three runs and Jansen Burnett added two RBI. On the mound, Burnett, Boddy, and Donovan Vanasudoll combined for a four-hit shutout. Gus Mann went 2 for 2 for Cerro Gordo/Bement (2-12).
Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin snapped a three-game losing streak with a big inning that turned a close game into a blowout. Cruz Dubois homered and finished with three RBI, walking twice and getting hit by a pitch. Jaxen Spicer went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and also earned the win on the mound, scattering eight hits over 6 1/3 innings while striking out six. Landen Packard, Mason Clapp, and Mason Brines each drove in a run. Aiden Frerichs led Milford (10-9) with three hits, while Hixon Lafond and Isaac Schaumburg each doubled.
Cissna Park never trailed, powered by Joah Henrichs' big day. Henrichs went 2 for 3 with four RBI and earned the win on the mound, throwing 5 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out six. Sawyer Kaeb added two RBI, while Jream Renteria (2 for 5, three runs) and Skyler Estay (2 for 3, four runs) played key roles. Weston Frazier drove in three runs for Oakwood (7-10), and Grady Johnson went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
LeRoy jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first and led 5-3 after five, but host Eureka answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-5 lead. The Panthers scored two in the top of the seventh but couldn't complete the comeback. EJ Chaon had three hits, including a double, for LeRoy in the Heart of Illinois Conference loss.
