Texas Longhorns basketball is getting a serious upgrade, and his name is Austin Goosby. As part of our "Fresh Faces on the Forty" series spotlighting the new recruiting class, we're kicking things off with one of the nation's top guards—and arguably the most exciting addition to Sean Miller's roster.
Standing at 6'5" and 186 pounds, Goosby brings elite length and scoring punch to the backcourt. Ranked as the No. 4 combo guard in the country and the No. 2 player in the state of Texas, he's poised to make an immediate impact alongside Isaiah Johnson and Mikey Lewis. His 2025 high school stats speak volumes: 17 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
But Goosby's story goes beyond the stat sheet. He's got deep roots in Austin—his older brother, Trevor Goosby, is a star offensive tackle for Steve Sarkisian's football team and a projected first-round NFL draft pick. Now, Austin is ready to carve out his own legacy in burnt orange, potentially slotting into the starting five from day one with his elite scoring ability.
This isn't just any recruit—Goosby is the first McDonald's All-American to join the Longhorns since Tre Johnson in 2024, and the fifth overall since 2020. His high school career at Dynamic Prep, combined with his EYBL experience, has him battle-tested against the nation's best. He's already turned heads at elite showcases across the country, proving he's ready for the next level.
Sean Miller's offseason haul has been impressive, but Goosby might be the crown jewel. With his combination of size, skill, and pedigree, he could be the next in a long line of Miller-coached draft picks. For now, though, it's all about what he brings to the Longhorns—and it looks like a whole lot.
Stay tuned tomorrow as we continue our series with Bo Ogden, a recruit who could bring elite outside shooting to the floor immediately.
