Jake Frechette delivered a statement performance to open the season, looking every bit like an ace in mid-season form. The Peru pitcher was utterly dominant on Wednesday, retiring all twelve batters he faced and striking out nine as the Nighthawks launched their Champlain Valley Athletic Conference campaign with a commanding 15-1 win over Saranac.

Frechette set a dominant tone from the mound, combining with relievers Kalib Smith and Trenten Taylor for a total of 15 strikeouts. The pitching staff carried a perfect game into the sixth inning and a combined no-hitter into the seventh, where Saranac's Brody Macomber finally broke through with a triple to score their lone run.

The offensive support was more than enough, with Peru's bats coming alive for 12 hits. Kalib Smith led the charge with three singles, while Keegan Theriault added a double and a single. Deacon Whitmarsh contributed two singles, and Trenten Taylor chipped in with a double, showcasing a balanced attack that overwhelmed their opponents.

"It’s always nice to start out the season with a victory, but we definitely have some things to work on as we move forward," said Peru coach Brian Marino, praising his team's ability to put the bat on the ball and his pitchers' command. "Jake, Kalib and Trenten did a good job throwing strikes and mixing their pitches."

In other local baseball action, Owen Bobbie was masterful for Moriah, tossing a complete-game, four-hit shutout with four strikeouts and no walks in a victory over AuSable Valley. Billy Orr provided the offensive spark with two hits and two RBIs. Meanwhile, at Bolton, a quartet of pitchers—Liam Foy, Ryan Roemer, John Roemer, and Abram Figueroa—combined on a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to secure a win, backed by two hits from Jaxon Egloff.
