Albert Riera is keeping his cool despite swirling rumors that his time at Eintracht Frankfurt is running out. The Spanish coach, who took over in late January, faces a critical Bundesliga clash at Borussia Dortmund on Friday—and speculation is rampant that he could be dismissed either after the match or at season's end, regardless of the result.
"I am not worried," the 44-year-old told reporters during a Thursday press conference. "That is not important. What matters is that the team get points in these two matches. That is all. I know exactly how this job works."
Frankfurt currently sits eighth in the table, still within reach of a Conference League spot—a respectable goal for a mid-season managerial change. But recent form has been shaky. Last weekend's defeat to Hamburg SV marked a third straight game without a win, and Riera faced jeers from home fans. The tension follows a bizarre press conference where he openly ranted at the media, adding fuel to the fire.
"We have to accept—starting with me—that if you do not win, you also have to deal with criticism," Riera acknowledged.
There may be a silver lining: Dortmund has already secured Champions League football and has little left to play for, which could give Frankfurt an edge. For Riera, staying focused on the pitch is the only play that matters. Whether that's enough to save his job remains to be seen.
