Francis Ngannou is ready to remind the MMA world why he’s still the king of the heavyweight division. The reigning lineal champion hasn’t stepped into the cage since October 2024, when he made a thunderous PFL debut by stopping Renan Ferreira in the very first round. Now, he’s set for what looks like a routine return this weekend—but don’t let the odds fool you.
Ngannou will face Philipe Lins, a fighter who hasn’t competed since 2022 and hasn’t notched a win at heavyweight since 2018. Unsurprisingly, Lins enters as a massive underdog. But for Ngannou, this fight is about more than just getting back in the win column. It’s a chance to send a clear message to the entire division—and to one man in particular.
“I’m very excited about that,” Ngannou said when asked about reasserting his status as the lineal champion. “I’ve been preparing myself for that. Now we are ready. We are just three days away from going out there and showcasing that.”
The stakes get even higher with Jon Jones expected to be watching from cageside. The former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion will be part of the broadcast team for Netflix’s first-ever MMA event, which also features Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano. For Ngannou, having Jones in the same building adds an extra layer of intrigue.
“It’s going to be interesting to see Jon Jones in the same arena watching,” Ngannou noted. “Very interesting to see how it’s going to be. We’ll see. It’ll be great.”
Regardless of what happens this weekend, fans will no doubt keep clamoring for the dream matchup between Ngannou and Jones. But first, “The Predator” has to handle business—and he plans to do it in style, silencing any doubts and his biggest rival all at once.
