Big news for NFL fans and broadcast television: Fox is adding two more regular-season games to its lineup this season. CEO Lachlan Murdoch confirmed the acquisition during an investor call on Monday, as reported by Variety's Brian Steinberg.

Here's what we know. One of the new games will land in Week 10, creating the first-ever "tripleheader" in broadcast TV history. Fox will kick off the day with an international game from Munich, Germany, in the morning, then follow with its traditional early-afternoon and late-afternoon slate. The second addition is a Saturday game in Week 15.

This move comes after a bit of behind-the-scenes maneuvering. Reports last week indicated the NFL had five games available, with Netflix and YouTube initially expected to split them. But YouTube reportedly backed out, leaving the league to shop the remaining two to broadcast networks. Fox stepped in to secure them.

Interestingly, four of those five games were originally part of ESPN's Monday Night Football doubleheader package but were returned to the league as part of a recent equity deal. The fifth—reportedly a Week 1 game from Australia—appears headed to Netflix.

For Fox, this expansion signals a continued strong partnership with the NFL. "There is no tension really with the NFL," Murdoch said on the call. With these additions, broadcast television's presence is set to grow even larger this season—great news for fans eager to catch more action on free, over-the-air TV.
