Big news out of Austin: Texas Longhorns tight ends coach Jeff Banks is on the verge of landing a major recruit. Four-star tight end Brock Williams has set his commitment date for May 15, and the Longhorns are squarely in the mix.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound standout from Libertyville, Illinois, has been a hot commodity on the recruiting trail. For the past seven months, Williams has narrowed his focus to three finalists: Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas. But it's the Longhorns who seem to have gained momentum, especially after Williams made an unofficial visit to campus in late March—a trip that reportedly pushed Texas to the top of his list.

This recruitment is a big test for Banks, who has faced some criticism during his five-year tenure for not consistently landing elite tight ends. Texas has something to sell, though: the Longhorns have produced NFL Draft picks at the tight end position in each of the last three years, a track record that rivals even powerhouse programs like Georgia.

Williams isn't just any recruit. He's a consensus four-star prospect, ranked as the No. 4 tight end nationally and the No. 79 overall player in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Over the last two seasons at Libertyville, he's put up impressive numbers: 79 catches for 1,204 yards and 18 touchdowns. That kind of production has earned him nearly 40 offers from top programs across the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, and USC.

For Texas fans, May 15 can't come soon enough. If Banks can secure Williams's commitment, it would be a statement win for the Longhorns' recruiting efforts—and a sign that the tight end pipeline in Austin is only getting stronger.
