Woodruff football four-star running back Aiden Gibson committed to Penn State on May 12.

In a major recruiting win for Penn State, four-star running back Aiden Gibson announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on May 12, choosing Matt Campbell's program over a crowded field of suitors that included South Carolina, Rutgers, North Carolina, Louisville, and others.

The 6-foot-2, 203-pound junior from Woodruff High School made his decision official at Tap Three in Woodruff, putting an end to a recruitment that saw offers pour in from powerhouse programs like Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and UCF.

Gibson's star power is undeniable. Ranked as the No. 7 prospect in South Carolina for the 2027 class and the No. 23 running back nationally by 247Sports Composite, he brings elite talent to the Nittany Lions' backfield. Last season, he was a workhorse, accounting for a staggering 1,998 yards from scrimmage—including 1,611 rushing yards at an impressive 7.9 yards per carry—and 21 touchdowns. His efforts helped Woodruff reach the Upper State finals, though their season ended with a tough 34-3 loss to Belton-Honea Path.

For Penn State fans, this commitment signals a bright future in the running game. Gibson's blend of size, speed, and production makes him a perfect fit for the Nittany Lions' physical style. As he prepares for his senior season, all eyes will be on how he builds on last year's breakout performance.
