2027 four-star QB Kamden Lopati is discussing why he chose to decommit from Illinois and commit to Michigan Football. That and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:

The Michigan Wolverines have secured a major building block for their future, landing a commitment from 2027 four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati. The talented signal-caller from Salt Lake City made a swift pivot, decommitting from Illinois on Monday and pledging to Michigan just one day later.

Ranked as the No. 9 quarterback and No. 122 overall player nationally by the Rivals Industry Ranking, Lopati represents a significant win for head coach Kyle Whittingham's new staff. The connection, however, isn't new. Lopati developed strong relationships with quarterbacks coach Koy Detmer Jr. and offensive coordinator Jason Beck during their tenure at Utah, bonds that proved decisive in his recruitment.

"I have great relationships with the entire Michigan staff, and that was big for me," Lopati told Rivals. "All of those coaches were recruiting me when they were at Utah and picked things right back up when they got to Michigan."

Lopati's admiration for the program extends beyond the coaching staff. He cited Michigan's legendary tradition and iconic game-day atmosphere as powerful draws. "Growing up, I’ve always liked Michigan and their football tradition," he said. "The fan base is so passionate. I love the culture of the program... The Big House is incredible, the facilities are as good as you’re going to see, and it’s just different there."

This commitment headlines a busy recruiting period for the Wolverines, who are hosting a final wave of unofficial visits before official visits begin at the end of May. Lopati's decision underscores the immediate recruiting impact of Whittingham's staff and provides a cornerstone prospect for the 2027 class, signaling a bright future in Ann Arbor.
