In a major recruiting win for Alabama football, four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II has officially committed to Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. The Brentwood Academy standout made his announcement on May 11, choosing Alabama over Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and other top programs.
Simon, who ranks as the No. 6 prospect in Tennessee for the 2027 class and the No. 10 linebacker nationally per the 247Sports Composite, brings serious pedigree to Tuscaloosa. His father, Kevin Simon, was a two-time All-SEC linebacker at Tennessee and a seventh-round NFL draft pick by Washington. Despite that strong Volunteer connection, the younger Simon made it clear his dad's legacy didn't sway his decision.
"My dad just wants to see me go do what's best for me," Simon told The Tennessean. "Not one time during the recruiting process did I feel like he wanted me to go to Tennessee. It wasn't too big a deal for him."
Simon's relationship with Alabama linebackers coach Chuck Morrell proved crucial, but it was DeBoer's long-term vision that sealed the deal. The Crimson Tide head coach recently signed a seven-year contract, providing the stability Simon was looking for.
"Coach DeBoer signing that seven-year contract just shows there's stability in the program. That was the concern at first," Simon explained. "But it's knowing that all the coaches are still gonna be there and I won't have to worry about the coaching staff changing anytime soon."
Simon has been impressed with how DeBoer has handled the transition following college football legend Nick Saban, and that confidence played a key role in his commitment.
On the field, Simon is a playmaker. During Brentwood Academy's runner-up finish in the TSSAA Division II-AAA state championship in 2025, he racked up eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, one blocked kick, and a pass breakup. He also showcased his versatility with 129 kick return yards and 64 rushing yards with a touchdown.
With offers from Georgia, Michigan, Florida, and Vanderbilt also on the table, Simon's commitment is a significant early win for DeBoer's recruiting momentum as he builds the next era of Alabama football. The Crimson Tide faithful will be eager to see this talented linebacker suit up in crimson and white.
