Fossil Ridge freshman Kennedy Lindsey has proven that no weather can stop a determined athlete—not even a spring snowstorm. The SaberCats' rising star was named Blue FCU's Girls Athlete of the Week for May 4-9 after scoring two goals in a snowy playoff victory, showing the kind of grit that defines champions.
Lindsey's breakout performance came during Fossil Ridge's 4-0 home win over No. 31 Legend in the first round of the 5A playoffs. The match took place under challenging conditions as a rare May snowstorm blanketed the Front Range, turning the pitch into a sludgy, sleeting mess. While the heavy snow made it difficult to kick the ball with much force, Lindsey adapted and delivered when it mattered most.
The freshman opened the scoring with a beautiful top-shelf goal, then struck again midway through the second half to cap off the SaberCats' dominant performance. It marked the first multi-goal game of her high school career—a milestone that speaks volumes about her composure on the big postseason stage.
Lindsey didn't stop there. She followed up with another goal in Fossil Ridge's commanding 3-0 quarterfinal victory over No. 7 Cherry Creek on May 11, further cementing her role as a key contributor in the team's quest to repeat as 5A state champions.
Remarkably, Lindsey is the first soccer player—boys or girls—to earn Blue FCU Athlete of the Week honors this school year. She secured 55% of the vote in a two-way race, edging out Liberty Common's Miriam Huffsmith, who finished as runner-up with 42.6% of the vote.
The other outstanding nominees this week included Rocky Mountain football's Bode Nesbitt (who returned the opening kickoff of the season for a touchdown against Northglenn), Poudre's Owen Addington (who dropped just six games in four sets during a 2-0 week), PSD's Marli Brenner (who recorded 13 tackles, two sacks, and a touchdown catch against Eagle Ridge Academy), and Wellington softball's Kensley Story (who hit two home runs with four RBIs, scored eight runs, and stole five bases in a 3-0 week).
For young athletes like Lindsey, performances like these are a reminder that the right gear and the right mindset can make all the difference—even when the snow is falling. Whether you're braving a spring blizzard or the heat of a summer tournament, being prepared with quality apparel and equipment helps you focus on what matters most: playing your game.
