In the ever-evolving landscape of college basketball transfers, a former North Carolina commit has found his new home—this time in the American Athletic Conference. Maxim Logue, a versatile big man who initially pledged to the Tar Heels, has officially committed to the Memphis Tigers, adding depth to Penny Hardaway's frontcourt for the 2026-27 season.
Logue's journey took a turn when his brief commitment to UNC didn't pan out, but the 6-foot-10 forward is now set to bring his raw talent to Memphis. With 49 games of experience split between Oregon State and Florida Atlantic, Logue has averaged four points and 2.6 rebounds per game—numbers that hint at untapped potential. While he won't be a full-time starter, his ability to contribute off the bench could be a key asset for the Tigers.
For North Carolina, losing Logue isn't a major blow. The Tar Heels' frontcourt remains solid, anchored by Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson and Malian big man Sayon Keita. Cade Bennerman provides additional depth, and the roster still has room for more additions. Guard play will be UNC's strength next season, led by Terrence Brown and Matt Able, with versatile players like 6'9" Neoklis Avdalas adding flexibility.
Memphis, on the other hand, had two glaring holes in the frontcourt after losing Aaron Bradshaw to Tennessee State and Thierno Sylla to graduation. Logue steps in as a promising replacement, offering the Tigers a big man with plenty of room to grow under Hardaway's guidance. If this were Keita leaving UNC, Tar Heel fans might be more concerned, but Logue's departure is a manageable shift in the transfer portal shuffle.
