After watching fellow Terp Octavion Smith Jr. sign with his hometown team, former Maryland wide receiver Jalil Farooq will do the same — Farooq will look to join Smith in Charm City after reportedly signing with the Baltimore Ravens on an undrafted free-agent contract.

The #Ravens are expected to sign former Maryland wide receiver Jalil Farooq, a source tells @CBSSports.Farooq, who transferred to Maryland after beginning his career at Oklahoma, had 58 catches at Maryland last season. Finished his college career with 147 career catches. pic.twitter.com/WPGmxVPCCI

Farooq’s apparent signing marks the fifth graduating Terp to sign an NFL contract and fourth to sign as a UDFA. But of the five pros, Farooq’s time in Maryland was by far the shortest.

Prior to coming to Maryland, Farooq spent the first four years of eligibility at Oklahoma, where he totaled 89 receptions for 1,287 yards and seven touchdowns. But after missing a large chunk of his senior season due to injury, the Prince George’s County native returned home for his final season of college football.

In that season, Farooq impressed, racking up a team-leading 58 receptions and 545 receiving yards along with four receiving touchdowns. The receiver was primarily used out of the slot and was by far Malik Washington’s favorite target in his breakout freshman campaign.

Along with Smith, Farooq apparent signing pairs him with former Maryland offensive lineman Corey Bullock as Baltimore looks to improve its struggling receiver room in the offseason.

Be sure to keep track of all Maryland post-draft signings on the Testudo Times UDFA tracker.
