In a move that adds another chapter to one of the NFL's fiercest rivalries, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Skylar Thompson is crossing enemy lines to sign with the Baltimore Ravens, according to Ian Rapoport.

Thompson's journey to the Ravens is a whirlwind one. He initially joined the Steelers in January 2025 on a futures contract, and quickly made an impression during training camp. In the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Thompson turned heads with a stellar performance, completing 20 of 28 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns—a showing that had Steelers fans buzzing about their quarterback depth.

Before his brief stint in Pittsburgh, Thompson entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Miami Dolphins out of Kansas State in the 2022 NFL Draft. Over two seasons with the Dolphins, he appeared in 11 games and even made a playoff start in relief of Tua Tagovailoa against the Buffalo Bills. For his career, Thompson has thrown for 721 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions, but his mobility and arm strength have always intrigued scouts.

Now, Thompson will don the purple and black of the Ravens, adding depth to a quarterback room that already features Lamar Jackson. It's a classic "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" scenario—though Thompson never actually faced the Ravens in a Steelers uniform. Still, for fans of both teams, this signing adds some extra spice to the already heated AFC North rivalry.

In other Steelers news, the team is reportedly growing impatient with Aaron Rodgers' decision-making process, while also eyeing potential linebacker targets for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. With one of the NFL's toughest schedules looming in 2026, Pittsburgh is clearly planning for the long haul.
