AUBURN, Ala (WKRG) – Former Saraland Spartans star DeShawn Spencer is making his presence known in his first semester of football with the Auburn Tigers.
Spencer was one of the standouts in Auburn’s 2026 A-Day Game on Saturday. He caught nine receptions for 93 yards and was named the Offensive MVP of the game.
He looks to have a contributing role for the Tigers in the upcoming 2026 season.
Spencer signed with Auburn as a three-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. He received 25 offers after a standout career at Saraland, including from Duke, Maryland, Houston, and South Florida, where he visited.
Like every freshman entering the college game, Spencer had to adjust to a different speed, tempo, and learning curve. Spencer talked about the transition from high school to college after the A-Day Game.
“I first got here, I was like, ‘what am I doing?’ But, you know, it just come with, you know, we talk about doing a great, like, a good process. So, you know, I had to adjust my process a little bit.”
“You got to come back. You got to get extra work. Just coming back those, you know, extra hours coming to get extra work, it just kind of came together for me. And the more and more I did it, it just came to me and it was easier to understand.”
Auburn’s offense won the A-Day Game over the defense with a 66-43 score
