Former New Orleans Saints offensive lineman Landon Young is packing his bags for the Big Apple. The veteran blocker has inked a deal with the New York Jets following a tryout at their rookie minicamp this weekend, as first reported by Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Young spent his entire five-year NFL career with the Saints after being selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft—pick 206 overall—out of the University of Kentucky. He made an immediate impact as a rookie, appearing in 10 games with one start. From 2022 through 2024, he suited up for 46 of a possible 51 games, earning 11 starts along the way. Over his first four seasons, Young logged 881 offensive snaps and contributed another 215 on special teams, with the bulk of his work coming at offensive tackle, primarily on the right side.
Last year's training camp saw Young begin to cross-train at guard, adding versatility to his game. Unfortunately, an ankle injury suffered in the Saints' preseason finale sidelined him for the entire 2025 season on injured reserve. When he hit free agency this offseason, New Orleans made little effort to retain him—and for good reason. The Saints boast a formidable starting tackle duo in Kelvin Banks Jr. and Taliese Fuaga, with a deep pool of backup candidates including Asim Richards, Xavier Truss, Barry Wesley, and undrafted rookies Alan Herron and Alex Wollschlaeger.
Now, Young gets a fresh start with the Jets, where his experience and positional flexibility could prove valuable as New York looks to bolster its offensive line depth. It's a classic NFL story: one team's injured reserve casualty becomes another's potential steal.
