An NFL writer identified a potential NFC playoff contender as a possible landing spot for Stefon Diggs this season.

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs remains one of the most intriguing names left on the free-agent market this offseason. With training camps just two months away, several teams could use his veteran presence—and one NFC contender is emerging as a natural fit.

According to ESPN's John Keim, the Washington Commanders should strongly consider adding Diggs to their receiving corps. While the Commanders already feature star wideout Terry McLaurin, Keim argues that Diggs wouldn't need to be the top option—a role he's excelled in throughout his career, but one that may now be better suited for a complementary player.

"With Terry McLaurin in place, Diggs wouldn't need to be the lead receiver in Washington," Keim wrote. "And, as one person who used to work for Washington said, Diggs gives the coaches a player who can make an immediate impact; he can play in the slot or the flanker position in a two-receiver set. It also would give the rookie (Antonio) Williams a chance to develop."

At this stage of his career, Diggs profiles as an ideal No. 2 receiver for a contending team. Pairing him with McLaurin would give Washington a dynamic veteran duo capable of stretching defenses and providing reliable targets for their young quarterback. Diggs' ability to line up both in the slot and out wide adds valuable versatility to any offensive scheme.

There's also a compelling personal connection that could sway Diggs toward Washington. The Maryland native grew up just a short drive from the Commanders' stadium in Landover, and he played his college ball at the University of Maryland. That home-state appeal could be a deciding factor as he weighs his options.

For a Commanders team looking to make a playoff push, adding a proven veteran like Diggs could be the missing piece—and the chance to play close to home might make this the perfect landing spot for both sides.
