Cla Meredith had a funny take late Saturday night after Mason Miller broke his San Diego Padres record for consecutive scoreless innings.

“I gotta say thank you. This is the most relevant I’ve been in 20 years, since my streak. So well done,” Meredith said.

Meredith and his son, Wally, produced a congratulations video “live” from their home in Richmond, Virginia. The Padres shared the video on X.

It came out moments after Miller closed out San Diego’s 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Mexico City. The Padres closer extended his scoreless streak to 34 2/3 innings, one more than Meredith produced in 2006.

“First and foremost, congratulations, buddy,” Cla Meredith said in the video. “Anybody who’s watched you pitch shouldn’t be surprised at all by the streak that you’re on. The way you attack hitters, get after ’em, get ahead, stay ahead, finish, it’s impressive, and I’m rooting for you, man.”

Miller recorded a 1-2-3 inning to earn his MLB-leading 10th save. So far this season, the fireballing right-hander has struck out 27 batters in 13 1/3 innings. He has allowed three hits and two walks.

San Diego acquired Miller in a 2025 trade-deadline deal with the Athletics. He surrendered two runs in his second appearance with the Padres on August 5 and hasn’t allowed a run since.

“Big load off, for sure — I think we can stop talking about it now,” Miller said of the record, per MLB.com. “Just keep pitching, see how long we can go.”

According to MLB, Miller’s scoreless streak stands eighth among all relievers since 1961. Gregg Olson of the Baltimore Orioles holds the record with 41 scoreless innings in 1989-90.

Meredith enjoyed his scoreless streak during his first full season in the big leagues. He finished 2006 with a 5-1 record and 1.07 ERA. He never recaptured that form during four more seasons in the big leagues with the Padres and Orioles.

Finally, the Merediths ended their video with a request from Wally.

“Hey, Mason, can you sign me a baseball?” he asked.
