Oklahoma basketball head coach Porter Moser is making serious moves this offseason, and his latest addition is literally a big one. On Monday, the Sooners secured a commitment from former Oregon State center Yaak Yaak, adding much-needed depth and physicality to the frontcourt for the 2026-27 season.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-11, Yaak brings a strong interior presence after averaging 6.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in nine starts for the Beavers last season. He shot an efficient 51% from the floor and an impressive 83% from the free-throw line, showing he can be a reliable option on both ends of the court. His commitment comes just hours after Oklahoma landed Akoldah Gak from the G League, signaling a clear focus on building a formidable front line.
These two newcomers will join Kai Rogers, who committed to the Sooners back in April, giving Oklahoma a trio of big men with plenty of size and potential. Overall, Moser has now added five players from the transfer portal this offseason, including frontcourt standout Khani Rooths, wing Tyler Hendricks, and guard Pop Isaacs. The roster is shaping up with a nice blend of experience and youth, with returning forward Derrion Reid expected to anchor the lineup alongside Rooths and freshman Gage Mayfield.
Looking at the rotation, fans can expect either Gak or Yaak to hold down the center spot, while Xzayvier Brown teams up with Isaacs, Hendricks, and Dayton Forsythe on the perimeter. It's a lineup that promises versatility and toughness, exactly what the Sooners need after a roller-coaster 2025-26 season.
Oklahoma finished last year with a 21-16 overall record and a 7-11 mark in the tough Southeastern Conference. After a rough start that left them at 1-19 in conference play, the Sooners rallied hard down the stretch, just missing the NCAA Tournament. They made a strong run in the College Basketball Crown tournament, reaching the finals before falling to champion West Virginia. With these new additions, Moser is clearly aiming to take the next step and get back to March Madness.
