The North Henderson High School community is mourning the loss of former girls basketball coach Charles "Chuck" Bratu, who passed away on April 3 at the age of 52. The school shared the news over the weekend, honoring a man who dedicated himself to the Knights' athletic programs.
Coach Bratu led the varsity girls basketball team during the 2023-24 season, bringing his passion to the court. His commitment to North Henderson athletics ran deep, having also served as an assistant coach for the boys varsity team and as the head coach of the boys junior varsity squad for several seasons.
In a heartfelt statement, the school remembered him as far more than a coach. "Chuck Bratu was a dedicated coach, teacher assistant, mentor, and friend," the statement read, highlighting the profound impact he had on students and staff alike. It praised his unique ability to connect with and believe in students, pushing them to reach their full potential both in sports and in life.
His passing is a reminder of the powerful legacy coaches build—one that extends far beyond wins and losses, living on in the character of the athletes they guide. The school community vows that his spirit of passion and kindness will not be forgotten in its halls, classrooms, and on its courts.
