In an inspiring story of local talent making it to the global stage, former Melrose High School soccer star Frantzdy Pierrot has officially been named to Haiti's World Cup roster for the 2026 tournament. The Haitian Football Federation announced the 23-man squad on Friday, with Pierrot listed among nine attackers ready to represent the Caribbean nation on football's biggest stage.
Pierrot's journey from Melrose High School to the World Cup is a testament to his relentless determination. After playing two seasons for the Melrose High soccer team, he joined an academy before continuing his development at Northeastern University for two years. He then transferred to Coastal Carolina, where his talent truly began to shine. Since turning professional, Pierrot has built an impressive international career, playing for clubs in Belgium, France, Greece, and Turkey—he currently suits up for Rizespor in the Turkish Süper Lig.
The forward has been a consistent scorer for Haiti, leading the team in goals during last fall's Gold Cup. His experience against world-class competition is undeniable; during his career, he has faced off against legends like Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Neymar when his former club met Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Melrose High School Soccer Coach Dean Serino isn't surprised by Pierrot's success. "What I remember most about Frantzdy was just how determined he was," Serino said. "Physically, he was great, but his mental side made him even greater. He's big, physical, strong, and fast. Great in the air. When he gets the ball, it's tough to get it away from him. He never loses it, and that's the sign of a great player."
Haiti's World Cup campaign kicks off on June 13th in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where they'll face Scotland in what promises to be an electrifying opener. For Pierrot, it's a chance to showcase his skills on home soil—and for fans everywhere, it's a reminder that greatness can start anywhere, even on a high school field in Melrose.
