Former LSU baseball pitcher Anthony Eyanson is one step closer to living out his MLB dream after earning a well-deserved promotion within the Boston Red Sox organization. The talented right-hander, who helped lead the Tigers to their second national championship in three years, has been moved up to the Double-A level, joining the Portland Sea Dogs.
Eyanson began his first full professional season with the High-A Greenville Drive, where he quickly turned heads with his dominant performances. Through his first three starts, he posted an incredible 0.41 WHIP—the best among all South Atlantic League pitchers with at least one start—along with a stellar 0.73 ERA that ranked fourth in the league. Over that span, he racked up 18 strikeouts without issuing a single walk, showcasing the command and poise that made him a third-round pick (No. 87 overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft.
His hot start only got better as the season progressed. After five starts and 20.1 innings pitched, Eyanson had lowered his ERA to an eye-popping 0.44 while totaling 34 strikeouts. Perhaps most impressively, he hasn't allowed a run since his very first start on April 4, a stretch of dominance that made his promotion inevitable.
Now, Eyanson heads to Maine to join the Portland Sea Dogs in the Northeast Division of the Eastern League. With his promotion to Double-A, the former LSU standout is just a few steps away from making his MLB debut—and if his early-season numbers are any indication, that call to the big leagues might come sooner rather than later. For fans of the Tigers and Red Sox alike, Eyanson is a name to watch as he continues his rapid climb through the minors.
