As the Dallas Cowboys look to improve their depth, they are giving a former Longhorn a shot at making the roster. On Monday, the Cowboys invited offensive lineman Cole Hutson to their mini-camp. It will be an opportunity for Hutson to show how he can help an NFL team after a productive college career in Austin.

During his time wearing the burnt orange, Hutson played in 48 games, making 23 starts. With the Texas native serving as a model of consistency, the Longhorns O-Line was named a Joe Award Finalist in 2004. The year before, they were named semifinalists. Each year, the award is given to the best offensive line unit in the nation.

When Huston arrives at mini-camp, he will be reunited with one of his former teammates, Jaydon Blue. The talented running back was selected by the Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He should be a good resource for Hutson to lean on as he looks to make the most of his opportunity with the Cowboys.

While Hutson will face plenty of competition, he showed enough in college to earn a look from one of the league's most iconic franchises. If Hutson makes the team, he would be tasked with protecting Dak Prescott and opening holes for Blue, which is one thing he is familiar with.

Over the next few months, Hutson will not be the only former Longhorn to keep an eye on. Some of his former teammates who will be battling for a roster spot are  Mason Shipley, Matthew Caldwell, Travis Shaw, Jack Bouwmeester, Ethan Burke, and Jaylon Guilbeau. That group could give fans plenty of reasons to celebrate when Week One rolls around if they can replicate their college play.

Regardless of what changes the Cowboys make before the regular season begins, Hutson will get to prove why he should factor into their future plans.
