Los Angeles sports fans have a new reason to tune in during the morning commute. Former Lakers point guard Derek Fisher is joining forces with ex-MLB catcher Cody Decker to launch a brand-new radio show on "The Fan" 97.1-FM, the city's first-ever FM all-sports station.
Set to debut on May 18 at 6 a.m., "Derek and Decker" will anchor the 6-10 a.m. time slot, bringing a fresh mix of basketball and baseball insights to Southern California listeners. While they competed in different professional arenas, both hosts bring impressive media credentials to the mic. Fisher currently serves as an analyst for Spectrum SportsNet and has been a game analyst for NBC since the network acquired NBA rights in 2025. Decker, meanwhile, previously co-hosted a sports-talk show on SiriusXM and brings a decade-plus of baseball experience, including a brief stint with the San Diego Padres in 2015.
The station's full weekday lineup was announced on May 6, just 12 days before hitting the airwaves. Following Fisher and Decker, former NFL safety Brock Vereen and Fox Sports' Alex Curry will take over the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. slot, while "D-Mac & Reiter"—featuring longtime Dodgers Nation host Doug McKain and Bill Reiter—will command the 2 to 6 p.m. drive time.
Fisher's basketball pedigree is undeniable: over 18 NBA seasons, he played in eight Finals (seven with the Lakers and one with the Oklahoma City Thunder), earning five championship rings. For fans who remember his clutch playoff performances, this show offers a chance to hear his court-side perspective every morning. Whether you're a Lakers diehard or a baseball purist, "Derek and Decker" promises to be a lively addition to LA's sports radio landscape.
