Two decades after guiding the Indiana State women's basketball program to its historic peak, veteran coach Jim Wiedie is returning to his Ohio roots. Hiram College has named Wiedie as the 13th head coach in the history of its NCAA Division III women's basketball program, Athletic Director Scott Pohlman announced last weekend.
This homecoming marks a significant new chapter for the Akron, Ohio native, who brings over three decades of coaching experience across all NCAA levels. Wiedie's legacy is firmly cemented at Indiana State, where he remains the program's all-time winningest coach. Over ten seasons from 2000-2010, he compiled a 166-118 record, earned multiple Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year honors, and led the Sycamores to three WNIT appearances.
His coaching journey since then has showcased his ability to build programs. At the University of Findlay, he engineered the best season in school history and an NCAA regional appearance. Most recently, he took on the challenge of a rebuild at Nebraska Wesleyan. Now, he brings that wealth of experience—and a career total of 312 wins—to Hiram.
"We are thrilled to have Coach Wiedie lead our women's basketball program," said Pohlman. "His experience and success at all levels is a great fit, and we look forward to seeing the team thrive both in competition and in the classroom."
Wiedie's impact extends far beyond the win column. He has developed 18 1,000-point scorers, seen 50 players earn postseason awards, and consistently prioritized academic excellence. An impressive eleven of his teams have finished in the top five of the WBCA Academic Honor Roll, claiming the national No. 1 ranking three times.
As he prepares for his 35th season on the sidelines in 2026-27, the Hiram Terriers are gaining a proven leader known for building successful, well-rounded programs. This appointment signals an exciting new era for Hiram women's basketball, led by a coach with a deep track record of elevating teams to new heights.
