The transfer portal carousel keeps spinning in women's college basketball, and a former Iowa Hawkeye has found her new home. Guard Callie Levin, who entered the portal in late March, announced on Friday that she is staying in her home state to join the Northern Iowa Panthers.
Levin made the announcement on social media with a clear message of homecoming pride, writing, "I'm staying home... again. There's nothing better than playing in front of my home state fans and I wouldn't want it any other way!" The move represents a fresh start closer to her roots.
During her two seasons with the Hawkeyes, the 5-foot-9 guard from Solon, Iowa, appeared in 29 games, contributing 25 points, 17 rebounds, 15 assists, and 9 steals. Her decision to transfer was part of a significant offseason exodus for Iowa, as she became the third of five Hawkeyes to enter the portal this spring.
Levin arrives at Northern Iowa with a impressive pedigree. She was named the 2024 Miss Iowa Basketball after a stellar high school career at Solon, where she amassed 1,984 career points. Her senior year averages of 22 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.8 steals, and 4.5 assists per game demonstrate the two-way potential she brings to the Panthers' backcourt.
This transfer is a major pickup for Northern Iowa, adding a proven in-state talent with high-level Big Ten experience. For Levin, it's an opportunity to reset, embrace a larger role, and continue her career in front of a familiar fanbase, trading the black and gold of Iowa for the purple and gold of UNI.
