Italian football is in mourning after the passing of former Inter Milan and Brescia midfielder Evaristo Beccalossi at the age of 69. The beloved playmaker, known for his dazzling dribbling and creative flair, died on Tuesday night following a long battle with health complications.

Beccalossi suffered a cerebral haemorrhage in January 2025, which left him in a coma for 47 days. After a grueling rehabilitation period in his hometown of Brescia, he tragically passed away last night, leaving a void in the hearts of fans across Italy.

Born in Brescia, Beccalossi began his professional career with his hometown club before making a name for himself at Inter Milan from 1978 to 1984. During his six seasons with the Nerazzurri, he scored 37 goals in 216 appearances across all competitions and was a key figure in their 1979-80 Serie A title triumph. His time at the San Siro also saw him reach the semifinals of the 1980-81 European Cup and lift the Coppa Italia in 1981-82. He later added another Coppa Italia winner's medal with Sampdoria in the 1984-85 season.

Over his career, Beccalossi also represented Sampdoria, Monza, Barletta, and Pordenone, amassing 30 goals in 249 appearances in Italy's top flight. Although he never earned a senior cap for the Italian national team, he made three appearances for the U21 side and scored once in four matches for Italy's Olympic team.

Inter Milan paid a heartfelt tribute to their former star on their official website, saying: "FC Internazionale Milano and the entire Inter community join in mourning the passing of Evaristo Beccalossi. It feels impossible. In the folds of memory and in everyday life, Evaristo was always one of us. Unpredictable, like his dribbling, unique, like his way of handling the ball."

For fans of Italian football, Beccalossi's legacy is one of artistry and passion—a player who embodied the spirit of the game. His passing is a reminder of the timeless connection between players and the clubs they represent, a bond that transcends generations. As we remember his contributions on the pitch, we also celebrate the joy he brought to the sport.
