Former Georgia Bulldogs running back Cash Jones is making a position change with the Atlanta Falcons, shifting to wide receiver during rookie minicamp. The transition was confirmed by his former Georgia teammate, wide receiver Zachariah Branch, who noted that Jones has been participating in drills with the Falcons' receiving corps.
Jones, who played primarily as a third-down back at Georgia, was known for his pass-catching ability out of the backfield. Standing at 6 feet and 180 pounds, he caught 20 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown during his senior season. In fact, Jones finished his college career with more receiving yards (573) than rushing yards (253), highlighting his natural fit for the receiver role.
Beyond his offensive contributions, Jones also made an impact on special teams, recording a blocked punt and recovering an onside kick during his time with the Bulldogs. However, despite his versatility and playmaking instincts, Jones faces an uphill battle to secure a spot on the Falcons' 53-man roster for the 2026 NFL season. Learning a new position while adjusting to the speed of the professional game will be a significant challenge.
For now, the Falcons are experimenting with Jones' skill set in a new role, and it remains to be seen whether the switch will become permanent. As the team continues to evaluate its roster during minicamp, Jones' ability to adapt and make plays could determine his future in Atlanta.
