The Seattle Seahawks have made a savvy move to bolster their championship defense, signing veteran edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million. The former Florida Gators standout—selected third overall in the 2015 NFL Draft—joins the Super Bowl LX champions as they look to reload for another title run.
Rather than using a 2026 draft pick on a pass rusher, Seattle turned to free agency and quickly identified Fowler as a priority target. The connection is strong: defensive coordinator Aden Durde previously coached Fowler in both Atlanta and Dallas, and the 31-year-old was described as a "top option" for the Seahawks. A pre-draft visit sealed the deal, adding the 6-foot-3, 261-pound Lakewood, Florida native to an already elite defensive unit.
Fowler brings a decade of NFL experience and a proven track record of disruption. Over his career, he has recorded 58.5 sacks and 15 forced fumbles, with a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2019. His time at Florida was equally impressive: as a three-year starter, he posted 140 tackles and 14.5 sacks, earning All-SEC Second Team honors in 2013 after leading the Gators' defensive line in tackles and notching 10.5 tackles for loss.
For the defending champions, Fowler offers more than just numbers. His ability to set the edge against the run, disrupt plays in the backfield, and generate consistent pressure on quarterbacks makes him a perfect complement to stars like Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II. It's a low-risk, high-reward addition that could pay big dividends as Seattle aims to defend its title.
