Younghoe Koo, the former Falcons kicker, is trying out for the Saints

In a move that adds extra spice to one of the NFL's most heated rivalries, former Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo is trying out for the New Orleans Saints. The 31-year-old attended Day 1 of the Saints' rookie minicamp on Friday, looking to revive his career after a tough stretch.

Koo was released by the Falcons early in the 2025 season following a missed potential game-tying field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite that setback, his tenure in Atlanta was largely impressive. Over six-plus seasons and 89 starts, Koo converted 178 of 205 field-goal attempts (an 86.8% success rate) and 166 of 173 extra points. He originally joined the Falcons late in the 2019 season as a replacement for Matt Bryant and quickly became a reliable presence.

After his release from Atlanta, Koo had a brief stint with the New York Giants but was let go after missing two kicks in a loss to the Washington Commanders. Now, he's hoping for a fresh start with the Saints—a move that would add even more intensity to the rivalry if he lands a roster spot.

While it may be unsettling for Falcons fans to see Koo in a Saints uniform, it's a testament to the competitive nature of the league. Meanwhile, Atlanta is hosting its own rookie minicamp this weekend, with 23 players trying out, including offensive lineman Layden Robinson and defensive tackle Ross Blacklock.

If Koo catches on in New Orleans, it could be the ultimate payback move—and a storyline that makes the Falcons-Saints matchup even more compelling this season.
