Jared McCain is making a name for himself in the NBA playoffs, and the Los Angeles Lakers are feeling the heat. The former Duke guard came off the bench for the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals and delivered another scorching performance, dropping 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including a blistering 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.
McCain's hot hand from three-point range was a key factor in the Thunder's comeback victory. After trailing at halftime, Oklahoma City roared back in the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers 36-22. McCain was at the center of that surge, pouring in eight points in the period and leading all bench scorers for the second straight game.
What makes McCain's output even more impressive is his efficiency in limited minutes. He played just 18 minutes in Game 2, yet still managed to torch the Lakers from deep. Through two games in the series, the rookie guard has already racked up 30 points in 33 minutes off the bench, knocking down eight three-pointers in the process.
Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell didn't hold back when asked about McCain's impact. "He's a crazy shooter. He's a crazy scorer. It's amazing to have him on the team," Mitchell said after the game.
With a 2-0 series lead, McCain and the Thunder will look to keep their momentum rolling as they head to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Saturday. If McCain keeps shooting like this, the Lakers might be in for a long series.
