The NFL dropped the full 2026 schedule Thursday night, and while fans immediately started planning their game-day getaways, one former Commanders first-round pick had a different kind of celebration in mind—revenge.
Emmanuel Forbes, the cornerback Washington selected 16th overall in the 2023 draft, took to social media after learning his current team, the Los Angeles Rams, will face his former squad in Week 9 at Northwest Stadium. His message? "Get back don’t have a date."
Forbes' journey from first-round hopeful to waiver-wire pickup has been a tough one. Drafted by then-head coach Ron Rivera, the Mississippi State product was seen as a reach at the time—especially with Christian Gonzalez still on the board. His rookie season quickly turned rocky when Eagles star A.J. Brown repeatedly burned him, leading to a sideline benching and visible frustration from teammates trying to keep his spirits up. He finished the year with 14 games played but only six starts, and "struggled" might be putting it kindly.
After Rivera's firing, new GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn didn't see Forbes as part of their rebuild. Washington waived him during his second season, and the Rams claimed him off waivers. He's been in Los Angeles ever since, but his spot on the 2026 roster is far from guaranteed. The Rams made headlines this offseason by trading four draft picks—including a first-rounder—to the Chiefs for star cornerback Trent McDuffie, then signing him to a record-setting contract. That move doesn't exactly scream confidence in Forbes' long-term role.
So while Forbes is talking trash about a game two years away, the real question might be whether he'll even be on the field when the Rams and Commanders finally meet. For now, though, he's got his date circled—and his motivation written all over social media.
