Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is heading back to where it all began. The star signal-caller will be at the University of Colorado Boulder on Saturday for a major milestone: officially graduating and walking across the stage to receive his degree.

Sanders completed his coursework in winter 2024, right after the 2024 season wrapped up, and has already earned his degree. But Saturday is the big moment—the public celebration where he'll hear his name called, walk the stage, and accept his Sociology diploma. It's a proud moment for a player whose class attendance was a hot topic during his college career, proving he could handle the rigors of both the classroom and the gridiron at one of the nation's top research universities.

The journey to this point has been anything but ordinary. Sanders transferred to CU from Jackson State University in December 2022, following his father, Deion Sanders, after Coach Prime took the Buffs' head coaching job. At Jackson State, Shedeur was nothing short of legendary, setting single-season records for passing touchdowns (40) and completions (344) in 2022. He wasn't alone—he arrived alongside fellow Jackson State-to-Colorado transfer Travis Hunter, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2022 high school class, and the duo lit up the college football world.

Now, a year and a half removed from his Colorado career, Sanders is in the thick of an NFL quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson on the Cleveland Browns—a battle he's reportedly losing. To make things tougher, his brother Shilo, an unsigned free agent safety who also transferred from JSU to CU in 2022, has been clashing with reporters over coverage of the QB situation in Berea. But Saturday is a chance to step away from all that noise.

Things were simpler at CU for Shedeur, where he was universally loved on campus (well, by most teammates, at least). Since falling to the sixth round in the 2025 NFL draft, he's been one of the most scrutinized players in the league. But Saturday will be a welcome return to the Rockies, where he'll always be a Buffs legend. His 2024 season was nothing short of historic: he shattered single-season records with 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and 353 completions.

For fans who remember those electric Saturdays in Boulder, this is a reminder that greatness isn't just about what happens on the field—it's about finishing what you started. And for Shedeur Sanders, that means walking across that stage with his head held high, knowing he earned every step of the way.
