VACHERIE, La. — When St. James hired Phil Adams over the summer, his first order of business was to establish championship habits.
“When they met me in June. They just happen to believe in everything I say. They took my words, and they ran with them, and they worked hard. I influenced them to stay after practice. Hard work, ground balls, early work, coming before practice. And they just bought into the system, man. And when you work hard, man, you get good rewards,” Adams said.
St. James baseball broke its single-season win record, claimed the first district title in program history, and established a new winning standard.
“The group that laid down the foundation. The group that let everyone know that baseball is a thing in Vacherie, Louisiana, at St. James High School. They compete for championships here. They compete to play at the next level. So that’s wonderful that, you know, this group could be the guys that started that tradition,” Adams added.
