The Philadelphia Flyers are now staring elimination in the face after a tough 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 3 on Thursday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena. With the series slipping to 0-3, the Flyers are just one loss away from packing up for the offseason.

Carolina came out firing, with goals from Jordan Staal, Jalen Chatfield, Andrei Svechnikov, and Nikolaj Ehlers. Trevor Zegras managed to light the lamp for Philadelphia, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide.

For a moment, it looked like the Flyers might finally find their rhythm. They came out with energy, moving their legs and generating chances in a way we haven't seen much this postseason. They were dominating 5-on-5 play, and the crowd was buzzing. But a Hurricanes power-play goal put them on their heels, and though they answered back at even strength, the momentum was short-lived.

The second period brought a glimmer of hope when the Flyers finally got on the board, but a shorthanded goal against them quickly deflated the building. Discipline started to slip on both sides, and things only got messier heading into the third period.

Early in the final frame, Carolina struck again on the power play, and it felt like the knockout punch. But the real dagger came later at 5-on-5, when a complete defensive breakdown at the red line left the net wide open.

It wasn't for lack of effort early on. The Flyers had plenty of golden opportunities in the first period—Travis Konecny on a breakaway, Porter Martone alone in the slot. But whether it was the iron or Frederik Andersen standing tall, Philadelphia just couldn't find the back of the net. It was one of their best starts of the postseason, but without goals, that energy fades fast.

They even got the first power play of the game after Sean Walker was called for interference on Konecny. But one word sums up that man advantage: yikes.

Carolina's own power play came shortly after, when Sean Couturier was called for tripping Shayne Gostisbehere, and Jordan Staal made them pay with a slick backhand finish.

For Flyers fans, it's a tough pill to swallow. But in hockey, as in sports apparel, sometimes you have to weather the storm and come back stronger. The next game is do-or-die for Philadelphia.
