The Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch has hit another major roadblock, and this time it's the Eagles—the band, not the football team—that have swooped in to claim the date.
Originally scheduled for September 19 at the Las Vegas Sphere and set to stream on Netflix, the highly anticipated bout now faces serious uncertainty. The Sphere has booked a pair of Eagles concerts for that same weekend as part of the band's ongoing residency, effectively bumping the fight from the venue. Neither Mayweather's camp, Pacquiao's team, nor Netflix have commented on the status of the event following the concert announcement.
It remains unclear whether the fight will move to a different venue on the same date, shift to a later date at the Sphere, or fall apart entirely. But for now, September 19 at the Sphere is officially off the table.
This is just the latest in a series of setbacks since Netflix announced the rematch in February, calling it a "one-in-a-generation event" and billing Mayweather's return as an official comeback. But by March, Mayweather had already started walking back expectations, claiming the fight wouldn't be a professional bout but rather an exhibition—one that wouldn't threaten his pristine 50-0 record.
Pacquiao's camp has pushed back, insisting on a "binding agreement" and signaling they intend to hold Mayweather to the original terms. In a bold move, Pacquiao has even set up a training base at a former Mayweather Boxing + Fitness gym in Los Angeles, rebranding it as his own.
Meanwhile, Mayweather appears to be navigating financial challenges in his post-fight career, reportedly facing an IRS lien for unpaid taxes from 2018 and 2023. He does have two exhibition bouts on the horizon: one against Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis in Athens this June, and another against Mike Tyson—though that one still lacks a date and venue.
As the Eagles prepare to rock the Sphere, boxing fans are left wondering if this long-awaited rematch will ever find its way back into the ring.
