Florida State is making a bold move into the Lone Star State, extending a scholarship offer to Texas safety commit Karnell "Greedy" James. The 2027 three-star prospect has been pledged to the Longhorns since December, but that hasn't stopped the Seminoles from entering the race.
James took to social media on Tuesday to share the news, writing, "Blessed to receive an offer from Florida State University. #AGTG." The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back from Manvel High School is no stranger to big-time attention—he already holds around 30 offers from elite programs across the country. Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Florida, Notre Dame, and many others have all joined the pursuit.
According to Rivals' industry rankings, James is listed as the No. 439 player nationally and the No. 40 safety in his class. In a talent-rich state like Texas, he's ranked as the No. 60 prospect—a testament to his potential and the competition he faces.
Coming off a standout junior season, James posted impressive numbers: 53 tackles, six tackles for loss, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown. That kind of production has made him a hot commodity on the recruiting trail.
With an official visit already locked in with Texas on June 19—the final weekend for summer visits—Florida State will need to act quickly if they want to make a strong impression. Getting James on campus before that date could be key to flipping the talented safety from his current commitment.
For Seminoles fans, this is a name to watch as the recruiting battles heat up. James has the size, speed, and playmaking ability to make an immediate impact at the next level, and Florida State is clearly looking to add some "Greedy" talent to their defensive backfield.
